In order to complete our engineering programs in 4 or 5 years, students should complete approximately 16 credits each semester. Generally, each course is 3 or 4 credits. Please check your child’s schedule to see if they are taking a full load. A student should always be enrolled for a minimum of 12 credits each semester, although some exceptions are permitted.

Students are required to attend all classes and labs at Khalifa University. Attendance records are maintained by the faculty on daily basis.

If a student reaches 5% absence in a certain course:

The student receives an email notifying him/her of the absence which led to Warning Level 1.

The student should schedule a meeting with the University’s Academic Counsellor

If a student reaches 10% absence in a certain course:

The student receives an email notifying him/her of the absence which led to Warning Level 2

The student should schedule a meeting with the University’s Academic Counsellor

If a student reaches 15% absence in a certain course:

The student receives an email notifying him/her of the absence which led to Warning Level 3.

The student should schedule a meeting with the University’s Academic Counsellor

If a student reaches 20% absence in a certain course:

The student receives an email notifying him/her of the absence which led to Warning Level 4.

The student will be called upon to meet with the Associate Dean who may consequently withdraw him/her from the course.

The University requires all students to maintain a grade average of C or 2.0. If a student slips below this average in any semester, they are placed on “academic probation” until they raise their grade point average back to a minimum of 2.0. If a student cannot raise their grade point average to 2.0 after two consecutive semesters, he or she will be academically dismissed and must leave the university.

The University has strict rules about cheating and we expect every student to be well behaved on campus. Students who violate our conduct rules or our academic rules are subject to an appropriate punishment. In extreme cases, a student may be asked to leave the university for a period of time or permanently. You will always be notified in these cases.

Student cumulative grade point Average (CGPA) is calculated by averaging the grades earned for each course in all semesters.

For each course the student receives a grade as in the table below:-

IP	-	In Progress (May be assigned prior to a final grade in a multi-course sequence.)
I	-	Incomplete
TR	-	Transfer (Credit counted.)
